The Denim Guide

There's not a wardrobe out there that won’t have a pair of jeans, they are the foundations of most of our outfits and will forever be a constant when it comes to fashion. That being said, finding the perfect pair of jeans isn’t exactly the easiest task. Here’s our guide to denim, breaking down how each style will look and more importantly what to style it with!

Straight Leg Jeans

Probably the most popular style at the moment is the straight leg jean. With either a mid or high rise, it skims over the hips, and sits looser around the legs and ankles. This style will work with a range of tops and jackets, but people find the styling struggle arises when choosing shoes to wear with them. When styling a boot, opt for a snug fit around the ankle and a pointed toe so that the jeans sit over the top. Then when going for a casual trainer turn up the hem to create a break between the shoe and the jeans for a more balanced proportion.

Skinny Jeans

We’re here to tell you that skinny jean is here to stay. This universally flattering shape sits at a higher rise, with some stretch to sculpt the curves of your body and create a leg-lengthening silhouette. These jeans are created for day-to-night styling. Wear them with chunky knitwear and ankle boots, or style them with a silky cami top, a boyfriend fitting blazer and a pair of killer heels.

Mom Jeans

A more relaxed look with a nod to the late 80’s and early 90’s. The mom jean will sit high on the waist, with more room around the hips and dropping into a tapered leg that sits at the ankles. This shape is great for those with curves. When styling these jeans, it’s best to tuck your top and choose a jacket that is either cropped or longline - something that falls to the hips will throw off the proportions. To finish the look, you can’t beat a pair of trainers.

Ripped Jeans

Dare to bare those knees. These can come in different cuts, but generally a straight cut or mom fit works with the edgy look of the distressed jeans. A relaxed denim combined with dressier items creates laid-back and fashion forward look. Styling these jeans with a classic court heel, a satin cami, or a sequin top will be the perfect evening outfit without trying too hard.

Coated Jeans

Step up your denim game by elevating your look with coated jeans. Usually cut into a high-rise skinny shape, this smooth finish will add a new dimension to your outfit. These polished jeans are made for day-to-night styling. Wrap up warm with a chunky knit, with the contrast in textures working well together. And when the occasion arises style the jeans with a sheer blouse, boyfriend fit blazer and heels.
